How it works

Anyone can apply for a loan whether they are unemployed, employed, already in training, or in further education.

This new scheme, introduced by the Government in 2013, helps students 24 years and over fund their learning. It can really help you get the essential qualifications you need to boost your career.

Repayments only start when you earn over £21,000

To qualify for a 24+ Loan you must:

  1. Be aged 24 or over
  2. Be living in the UK for the past 3 years
  3. Have a National Insurance Number

There is no credit check when you apply for a 24+ Loan and your household income is not taken into account. Student Finance England will pay the loan once they've confirmed your attendance on the course.

Repayments will not begin until April 2016 and then only start once you're earning more than £21,000 per year. For example, if you earn £22,000 then your monthly repayment will be just £7 a month.
